Window wells are installed to provide  positive slope away from the foundation area around the window, with clay and topsoil, which will keep water from running into your basement through the window.

The reason we install window wells:

Gradex Consulting Ltd. wants to control the window well installation as well as the lot grading so that the window wells are installed at the proper height and timed with the grading of the lot before or right after, depending on the size of the side yard we are working with.  We will check the elevation of the windows to place the window wells at the proper elevation to ensure positive drainage from the foundation.  We will also clean up the excess clay at the same time so that there will not be a delay in getting rough grade approval.

Our goal is to get our Rough Grade Approvals on the inspectors' first trip to the lot.
